I love the buffer.

I was up until 1:00 this morning working on class stuff. Made a lot of great progress, which is good, because the thing’s due in 8 DAYS. eek.

Dog had me up at 2:30, when she drained her water bowl, begged for more water, drank that, fought me when I tried to send her outside to pee, finally went out, peed like a racehorse (only maybe not so tall) when she finally got out there, came back in, and promptly threw up most of the water on the rug.

To be honest, throughout all this I’d quite forgotten that today was Tuesday and I had a comic to post. For what little (4.5 hours) sleep I got last night I spent most of it dreaming about PHP programming and about work — no pressure there. But since I’d managed to slog together a few half-assed comics (no, not my best work) into a buffer during vacation, I didn’t *have* to worry, and that was a feeling I’d missed.

Goal one when all this is over (in 9 DAYS! eek.) is to rebuild my buffer into at least two months. And hell, if I get that done, maybe I’ll even go to a three-day-a-week schedule. But no promises. There’s no guarantee I’ll make it through the next eight days with these shreds of my sanity in tact.

ps. a quick thank-you to ideaphile Jamie, who sent me some fan art in April when I’d put up a call for it – your art’s finally going to be run a week from now. And believe you me, I’m glad it’s there for me to run!

Back to life, back to reality.

I’m back to work today, and so far everything’s going well, I guess. The office thermostat appears to be stuck at -2 degrees Kelvin, and I’m a bit cold, but I just grabbed some McDonald’s for lunch and that’s warmed me up. So did going outside in the first place – there’s probably a thirty degree difference between the 68 in here and the heat index outside. Ah, summer in Pennsylvania.

kirabug tiiired.

My wonderful sister came over today and we cleaned the house – and I mean cleaned the house. My nose still burns a bit from the bleach we used to kill the mildew in the bathrooms. Then we went to the mall, bought some stuff to organize the house, finished getting my contact fitting, came home and pulled weeds for at least two hours in the rain. (Plantnerd, the weed whalloping widget worked wonders!) Then it was off to my favorite cajun place for dinner, and a trip to my folks’ house to return the kid. Now I’m home, a little bit of class work to do if I can stay conscious.

One day left of my vacation. I suspect I shall fill it with nothing. I like that idea.

Some missions accomplished.

Tasks accomplished:

  • Bills are paid.
  • I confirmed that the property taxes are paid.
  • I have a comic buffer for the first time in weeks – two whole comics, but it’s better than no whole comics.
  • Eye appointments are finished (except a contact fitting tomorrow (*cough* today))
  • Car appointments are set.
  • I’ve successfully worked out on the elliptical trainer for at least 20 minutes the last 3 days straight.

Still have some important stuff to do tomorrow, like clean the house and find my garden under all the weeds, but all things considered I think it’s been a fairly productive vacation week.

In two days I go back to work. Sunday I have to work on class stuff. These are things I think I will worry about later. Right now is sleep.

Balance

You’ll have to excuse me – I’m a little behind in my movie watching. Tonight we watched The Matrix (all three), and today was the first time I had seen Revolutions.

Revolutions brought balance – the combination/destruction of the yin and yang of Smith and Neo. Without that balance, there can be no peace. I heard numerous complaints about the film prior to seeing it (in fact, most folks recommended against it), but I have to say I disagree. I couldn’t choose a better ending.

Now for some dinner – and a massive dose of tylenol while my eyes try focusing properly again.
