Bad Hoof

So a few weeks ago the arch of my right foot started to ache — not all the time, but sometimes when I walk on it funny or I’m on it too long. I stopped exercising to give it a chance to heal, but it’s been two weeks and healing has not accomplished itself according to plan. Went to the doctor today and he’s diagnosed tendon pulls with a possible very small fracture as well. X-rays were accomplished before work and all it theoretically going according to the new plan: advil, and heel cups in my shoes.

Of course it doesn’t help that the heel cup, while probably helping the tendons quite a bit, are making the bone ache like all hell.

What’s annoying (outside of the pain and inconvenience) is that I can’t walk the dog. But maybe that’s a blessing in disguise, considering that she’s currently scheduled for a specialist appointment later this week for a bad shoulder.

Anyway, today’s afternoon forecast is slightly grouchy with a chance of grousing, well on until morning.

What weekend?

Replaced the mailbox. Dug out the hydrangea bush. Built up the brick wall around the garden to keep wonder-dog out. Cleaned the kitchen (except the floor) and ran the dishwasher twice. Paid all the bills through mid-October, posted a comic into the archive, and started the processes necessary to replace the thermostat on the heater. Completed three loads of laundry.

Didn’t have a lot of down time. I have a three-day weekend at the other end of this week, though, so maybe I’ll finally get some rest then. I was supposed to go to the Boston-ish area next weekend to see my friend Mandine and her family, but Nighthawk’s not feeling all that great and it’s a long drive both there and back, so I had to cancel.

Anyway, it’s almost Monday and I’m still running laundry. Work will be theoretically quieter this week, so maybe I won’t be quite as exhausted. Here’s hoping.

Another weekend gone

Spent the weekend programming, drawing comics, and taking apart a laptop to see if it could be repaired. Tuesday’s comic is between 1/3 and 1/2 complete, with all the requisite bits accounted for, just not assembled. I got five hours of sleep last night. I have to work tomorrow. The dog’s sleeping with her head stuffed under the blankets and the rest of her out. We’re supposed to get more thunderstorms. I think we’re out of soap. This is getting a bit too random, even for me – going to bed now.

Dark!

I saw today’s comic on a PC today, and wow, is it dark. Sorry ’bout that, I’ll try to color test on the PC before publication next time…and if you have access to a Mac you really should check it out there. Much more blue.

Speaking of dark, I’ve got a script for saturday’s comic – sort of – and a start on the storyboard, but one of my models is busy sleeping on the sofa and refuses to go pretend to eat so I can take pictures of her. Mangy mutt ;) Maybe tomorrow. Tonight my throat hurts, so I’m going to bed. But be forewarned that Saturday’s comic is currently behind schedule.

New Routine

My work schedule changed as of yesterday, but thanks to the headache from Hell I didn’t get to try it out until today. It’s 8:45 and I still have 1 hr and 45 minutes until I have to be at work. Wow. I’ve already gotten up, worked out, taken a shower, and gotten dressed for work. Wow again. Jessdog is totally baffled – she thinks I’m staying home, I think. (She’s currently trying to burrow her way into the blankets on the sofa so my typing doesn’t bother her.)

And this extra time is good because the house is a pigsty and I might be able to get stuff done before work. Wow.

I know I’m going to miss the extra day off I once got from working a 4-day shift, but to be honest, things are looking pretty sweet right now.

And, dammit, I’m awake again.

So I slept from just after three to just after 8:30 if you excuse the five or so minutes I was groggy in the middle of the night when Nighthawk let the dog out. At 8:30 she decided she wanted to be awake and outside, so I got up with her and tried to nap on the sofa. Failed, but at least it was a try.* Meanwhile said dog just came in, and she’s snoring on the sofa.

I’m trying not to be angry that the dog’s asleep when I’m awake, since I wanted to be asleep when she was awake. I might just wake her up three or four times today just for the sheer evil fun of it.

Just read through my morning comic trawl and now I’m debating whether to launch into homework or make a food shopping list. Maybe I’ll work on the site design, or maybe I’ll work out. If I work out, maybe I’ll fall asleep by 6 tonight. That might be fun. I might even get tired enough that way to sleep on this sofa.

*to all the guests I ever subjected to this horrible-for-sleeping sofa, I offer abject apologies. This thing’s only comfortable for sleeping if you’re running a fever of 102 and can’t move from the exhaustion anyway.
