So it’s Friday.

So it’s Friday, and I’m off until Tuesday thanks to the holiday weekend and a skillfully-placed vacation day. I was supposed to spackle the holes in the bedroom walls last night but passed on that opportunity so that I could instead put another comic in the queue (and capture a great IOI screenshot), and also put my car in the shop.

I got up at 9, which tells me I’m getting a good amount of sleep during the week because it’s only about an hour later than I get up normally, and the JessieDog was up by 9:30. It’s about time to eat breakfast. Then I get to spackle holes, clean walls, and work on priming (primeing?) the walls and ceiling. Then the paint. whee!

Probably not all today, if it isn’t obvious.

I’m doing this one solo, which is a bit odd, because usually I drag my sister into all my rennovating adventures, but she’s got school and she’s in the pit orchestra for a musical and, well, kid’s got a life. So we’ll see how far I really get when self-motivating.

I foresee lots of caffeine in my immediate future.

Anyway, I’ll be away from the internet most of the day, much like yesterday, but unlike yesterday it’ll be because I don’t want to paint the keyboard. Feel free to visit the forum, or if you’re really bored go through the archives and let me know which links are broken. (Like I said, really bored.)

I’ll be back later, when I’ve reached a point where things will have to dry.

Paint, and such.

So I can finally move my arms and legs without pain. That’s a nice start.

Last Tuesday we moved into the 2nd bedroom we finally finished in January so that we could start working on our bedroom.

Our bedroom is 18×14, with a walk-in closet that’s at least 6×6. It’s freakin’ huge. Literally half the 2nd floor. And it’s lavendar. With lime green carpeting. So of course, that had to go.

And since once a year the condo association parks a huge dumpster outside for the whole development to use, and that “once a year” was last weekend, well, it had to go then. With the help of my dad and Nighthawk’s parents, we tore out the lime green carpet and the used-to-be-white yellow shag carpet that we found underneath it. We scraped the remains of the carpet padding off the flooring using a flat-nosed shovel, and filled at least two garbage bags. Then, just to make sure we were thorough, we tore out all the door trim and baseboard.

So needless to say, the first time I woke up this morning (at 4 am) I could about move.

This evening I bought the primer, ceiling paint, and wall paint necessary to go from lavendar to cayman blue (to match the second bedroom). Sometime this week I’ll patch the wallboard where necessary and sand so that I can paint this weekend.

In the meantime, today’s life lesson came while I was driving to work. It’s a twofold lesson, really.

Part one: While driving safely but at a brisk 75 mph pace in the left-hand lane down the highways of Pennsylvania, do not assume that the black car you just passed that looks like a Lincoln Town Car / limousine with the tinted windows and the heavy frame is in fact a limousine, because it may be an unmarked police car.

Part two: If you happen to be driving safely, but at a brisk 75 mph pace in the left-hand lane and pass an unmarked police car that looks like a limo, it’s handy to have some other idiot weaving through the much-more-crowded center and right-hand lanes going at least 80 mph, because the officer of the law is much more likely to go after that guy.

Or, to steal a phrase from my uncle, “Drive like an asshole, you’re gonna get hurt.”

Now it’s almost Tuesday and I just uploaded Saturday’s comic, so I’m going to bed. Sleep well, and drive safely.

See, this is how things get out of control.

So I have a new teeshirt idea, and it’s about 2/3 of the way finished. But I don’t like any of the fonts that I have with the teeshirt. So instead of settling on any of those fonts, I go font hunting.

Two hours later, I still haven’t found a font I like that can be used for commercial purposes. So I decide I want to make a font.

But just finding the right software to do that has been a trick, and now I’m downloading a demo for software that I don’t know how to use, which has already said it’s going to mark up some of the characters because it’s a demo. Whee!

I should be drawing comics right now. arrgh.

Online Comics Day 2006 Is Coming!

You might remember that last year we celebrated this esteemed holiday, but there were a few bumps in the road when it came to the official website.

Well, I’ve spent the past few days working with Aric Campling of H.O.S.E.R.S to ressurect the Online Comics Day website. I’m really thrilled that Aric and David and Howard and all the others involved let me participate – and I’m thrilled that we get to continue the tradition. Registration could open as early as tomorrow, so if you are a comic creator (or know one) please stop on by!

Now I just need to draw my comic for the event. Heh, how silly would that be, me not having a comic for it?

Up and down the rollercoaster

So much to tell you, so tired, this’ll be quick.

On the plus side:

There are comics in the queue, and more on the way, and lots of ideas firing off in the brain cabinet.

Also, everyone is healthy, the diabetes thing is progressing without major incidents, we’re all good.

Plus, I’ve been coding again (more on that in next post) which makes me happy. Tired, but happy. The project itself looked like it was going to be a lot rockier than it turned out to be, and success is iminient.

On the minus side:

I’m on Day 2 of a headache that may be sinus, may be migraine, but is definitely HURT. It’s much better than it was thanks to the care provided by my totally awesome husband, but still lots of hurt.

The coding and the headache have set me way behind on a knitting project for which I was way behind anyway.

I haven’t heard from my sister on what’s going on this weekend yet. (HINT HINT!!)

And, oddest of all, we found out today that Nighthawk’s primary specialist passed away suddenly on the 23rd. He was a good doctor, and a good man, and it’s going to be very strange to go to the office and see someone else after over five years of care.

So, as always, we’re riding the rollercoaster of human existance. But you knew that.

In other news

We figured out what was wrong with the home phone – the plug had somehow disconnected itself from the wall. The difference between Thursday (when I worked) and yesterday (when I was off) was actually having the time to check the wall plug. (And even then I take too much credit – Nighthawk found and corrected the problem.)

Comics are queued up through May 9, which means I can concentrate on other projects for about a week before I dive back into that. I have a good comfortable 5-strip buffer right now and I want to maintain at least that. If somehow I can write another 5 strips next weekend we’ll really be cooking with gas.

The Phils were rained out and the Flyers lost. The crowd in the Buffalo Sabres arena won no bonus points with me by getting all ramped up and cheering when we had a man down on the ice. If Philly fans did that, it’d be all over the sports newswire tomorrow – I hope ESPN and the like play fair and point out Buffalo’s behavior as well.

We’re supposed to get thunderstorms tomorrow (er, today). I like that.

I’ve reached the point of tired where my fingers look fascinating. In fact, they feel kind of numb. Maybe a marathon comic session wasn’t the best of plans.
