July 27th cannot come fast enough.

COMMENCE WHINING:
I’m up to my eyeballs in Javascript and PHP and MySQL on only six hours of sleep during my vacation!. Had Hershey’s chocolate and a cherry Coke for breakfast, which have kept the headaches at bay. Need to work on the yard, clean the house, etc. etc. etc. I could use a vacation from my vacation.

I have 15 days until this class – and my degree – are complete. I cannot wait.
WHINING COMPLETE (for now).

Baseball!

Today my family and I sat in the hot July sun just up the third base line (100-level seats! whoo!) and watched the Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 5-4 in 12 hot innings.

It. Was. Awesome.

Don’t get me wrong – the Phillies stil haven’t convinced me that they’ve even got a shot at climbing out of the basement and finishing even in a respectable 2nd place for the division. Despite their 12-of-13 winning streak earlier this season (a streak that made them the leaders of the wildcard all-too-temporarily) they’ve wrested defeat out of the jaws of victory enough times this season that today’s win was wholly unexpected.

In fact, I’ve already reached a point where I call my cousin just to rant about “those bums” (as generations of my family have done before), and a good portion of last week was spent muttering “Eight and sixteen… how did we ever win eight?”

Maybe that’s why today’s win was so sweet. It was messy – they stranded too many runners – and it was hot, and we ran out of lines on the scorecard and had to start writing the score information in the “at bats” and “runs” columns, but when it was all said and done it was a mark in the win column.

Happy happy!

Today is a special day for four reasons:

  • I got my new graphics software in the mail.
  • Today’s the first day of my 10-day vacation from work.
  • Today is JessieDog’s x+4 birthday – four years ago today we adopted her from the Chester County SPCA, where she had no tags, no collar, no owner, a bladder infection, and a cold. She’s feeling much better now. :)
  • Today marks the fifth anniversary of the day that Nighthawk and I were married.

The last one is the most beautiful. Five years ago I thought that I could never be as happy as I was that day, but every year that we’ve been together has compounded that happiness into something stronger than it was the year before. I love being Nathaniel Gibson’s wife, and I love him more than I could possibly express in words, let alone in words typed out on a blog.

For those keeping track…

Some of you know from the forum that my sister’s currently traveling in the UK, on a pilgrimmage with our church. And the London Underground was bombed by terrorists this morning. Mom just called and confirmed that yes, the kid is in Scotland, so as far as we know she should be safe.

My support and condolences go out to all of the families affected by this tragedy, as well as to all those living in the UK. There’s a loss of trust that affects you when your country’s been attacked in such a horrible way, especially when it’s for unknown reasons, regardless of whether you’re physically affected. It hurts – a lot – and will for a while. I haven’t forgotten how the members of the UK stepped up for those of us in America some four years ago, and I’m sure I speak for many of us when I say we’ll be glad to do anything we can for those of you who need help now.
