Gah. CSS is a pain in the ass.

I’ve now been working on the new site design for at least 20 hours and I still don’t have the effing design complete, because CSS is a pain in the ass.

Of course, it doesn’t help that the default WordPress template is effing huge either. The current template is a design I based on the previous template, which is based on the template before that, on back to the default WordPress template for WordPress 1.5, so it’s not exactly up to date with the newest baubles and doodads, which is why I wanted this one to be clean.

Clean – hah! The designer of the default WordPress 2.1 template organizes his stuff in ways totally foreign to my brain — valid ways, good clean ways, but it’s sort of like walking into the library and discovering that the librarian had decided to alphabetize all her books by the first letter of the third word in Chapter 3 of each book. The taxonomy is foreign to me. Just figuring out which CSS entry is modifying the item I’m trying to modify is trick enough at this point, not to mention that with my own addendums I’m already up to like 300 lines of CSS.

Granted, I did find a nice CSS Debugger which is helping to lower the insanity, but not by much.

Anyway, the comic Tuesday most likely won’t be a GOMH comic — but that’s OK because I’ve got some new photo comics I wanted to run (currently called Life is Odd) and we’ll kick off with one of those for Tuesday instead. I’ve got 4 comics in the queue right now, which damn well better hold us until this redesign is done, one way or the other, and a few other LIO comics to put together from my new camera.

Oh yeah, and I bought a new camera the other day.

Anyway, back to the coding. More ranting later probably.

Gah!

Some things are just so painful to look at that you just have to share.

eew.

There are so many things wrong here I don’t even know where to start.

Oh, and a quick note on the comic schedule. I know I recently cut the comic schedule, but I also recently tripped into enough fodder for Idiocy on the Internet to keep me stocked for a bit longer. In fact, as I write this, we’re comicked up to the 20th of March.

So here’s the deal; if I have enough in the buffer to offer you one Get Outta My Head and one something else in a week, that something else will show up on Saturday as if I’d not changed my schedule at all. (And you can use the links in the archive to easily navigate only the stuff you want to read.)

If on the other hand I run the buffer out, then Tuesday will definitely be update day. I want to update Tuesday and Saturday whenever I can, but if I miss Saturday I won’t be heartbroken.

And if you guys want even more buffer-filler, I can post some of my Fark photoshop projects in on Saturdays too. Drop by the forum to give me your opinion on that.

Oh, and Websnark updated today. Yay!

This post rambles. I have a bad headache and Tums are my friend.

Speaking of friends, one friend pulled me aside recently to ask whether I was offline more often because he’d done something to offend me. That’s not it — I just want to spend more time with my husband than with the computer. I’m sure I’ll have upticks in online time again sometime in the future, but I’m not sure I’ve hit my low point in this downtick yet, so don’t take it personally if I’m not on the forum or on IM after work. It’s just, well, I love him enough to have married him, so he gets first dibs on my time.

And speaking of Nighthawk, another friend pulled me aside recently to ask whether the current cancer comics indicate that Nighthawk’s health is in flux again. That’s an emphatic no. He’s doing very well — the cancer’s undetectable which means there’s a good chance it’s gone altogether, and everything else is good.

So why the cancer comics? Because a) even though he’s doing very well, I find I work through major emotional stuff best by writing, and what better topic than the item that kicked all this off? and b) there isn’t a whole lot out there on thyroid cancer. It’s a pretty rare cancer, and if we can pass on anything we learned to someone else who experiences it, that’s a good thing, to me.

But (and this should be obvious) this isn’t an autobiographical journal comic any more than Real Life is a purely autobiographical journal comic. “Inspired by occasional true events” is accurate. “Details what actually happened to me” is not. 90% of the stuff in the comic is crap I made up.

Milo’s a good example — none of the alien life forms I work with are that short.

It’s past my bedtime, and I’m not going to get the comic I was working on finished tonight. Tomorrow maybe.

Tomorrow’s date night with more Firefly. Yay!

I also created a new teeshirt design. Check it out by clicking that big store talk bubble up there in the top right corner. If you can’t tell which one’s the new one, you haven’t visited the store enough. ;)

Well, goodnight!

Gah.

ick!

Can somebody — anybody — tell me what the hell I’m doing wrong with this chick’s neck?
And is it just me or do her eyes remind you of Charlie from Heroes too? Maybe it’s the lashes.
Anyway, the forum’s open for anyone willing to point me back to natural-looking neckage. Well, open to those willing to register, anyway. Blasted spammers.
